FUTURE STARGATE
First there was the hit 1994 blockbuster STARGATE starring Kurt Russell and James Spader. Doctor Daniel Jackson is called in by the air force and discovers that the Stargate is a gateway to another planet. Colonel Jack O'Neill is brought out of retirement and his special ops team, including Jackson, travel to the planet - 'Abydos'. They get into some tricky situations and then blow up the bad guy. O'Neill and the remaining special ops return to earth but Jackson stays behind to be with his wife he met there, Sha're. Stargate's spin-off, Stargate SG-1, aired in 1997 starring Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks. It also introduced Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Don S. Davis and Terly Rothery. O'Neill was called out of retirement (again) when the Stargate delivered it's evil. O'Neill and his team, including Captain Samantha Carter, traveled to Abydos where they discovered the Stargate goes to lots of planets using a Dial Home Device (woo!). It just so happens Daniel Jackson took detailed notes of the 'Telephone book' when he was there. This gave the newly formed Stargate Command a selection of worlds to visit... six seasons worth of worlds. Currently the Stargate SG-1 team are filming the sixth and final season. "I've just spoken with Hank Cohen, the president of MGM TV, and we're still on track for producing a feature film as well as a spin-off series, following season 6 of SG-1." Says Brad Wright. The saga continues... Stargate II The Stargate
SG-1 producers are planning a STARGATE II movie for late 2003/early 2004.
Due to a falling-out with the original STARGATE director and producer,
Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, it is almost certain that the new movie will
feature the cast and crew of Stargate SG-1.Filming of the movie, written by Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper, will begin following a short break after Stargate SG-1's sixth season is completed (September 2002). SG-1's director, Peter DeLuise, commented in an interview, "A Stargate movie will be like the show, only much bigger, more elaborate and faster." Dr Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) was killed off at the end of season five of Stargate SG-1. Brad Wright discusses the film with some fans "I cannot say with certainty that MGM will commit to the movie until they've seen the script." Brad Wright tells fans, "Robert Cooper and I are currently writing it, but I have every hope that it will be produced and I have every intention of including Michael as Daniel in the feature." "Then, if all the economics fall into place, we'll have that open up a whole new world that will become a new Stargate spin-off series. ... The movie idea we have will change the Stargate universe considerably -- open it up and create the potential for a whole new series." Stated Robert C. Cooper in an interview with Dreamwatch. UPDATE: Producers will not be makin a second Stargate movie, but instead use the SG-1 season 7 finally, The Lost City to lead off into a new series. SG-1 will also continue onto an eighth season. Evolutionary ladder... Stargate : Atlantis
While Brad Wright was talking to fans he was careful not to let any Atlantis information slip. "Season 6 will build toward a climax. The actual climax is the feature. And the spin-off series that takes place is a slightly altered continuation of the Stargate universe." This section will be updated as more information becomes available about Stargate : Atlantis. Diversification... Stargate : Infinity FOX Television
have scheduled for 26, 30 minute long animated programs to start in September.
The animated series will not include any of the current cast or crew of Stargate
SG-1, but it has been ordered by MGM. DIC Entertainment will produce the show."Action meets education in an animated series based on MGM's successful sci-fi movie and television franchise 'Stargate.' A portal to the far reaches of the universe, [the] Stargate is trespassed by a mysterious creature escaping a sinister alien race. Now, Stargate Command must get the beguiling Draga back to her home planet while evading capture by sinister alien soldiers as well as bounty hunters from Earth. Fully compliant with the FCC Children's Television Act, STARGATE INFINITY reunites the team responsible for such acclaimed educational programming as the multi award-winning 'Captain Planet' and 'Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?,' the first Emmy award-winning FCC friendly series." Check out the new Dial Home Device section on Stargate : Infinity here! This section will be updated as more information becomes available about Stargate : Infinity. Buried in time... Like Dr Daniel Jackson - every time Stargate dies, it will rise again even better than before. Before you get too depressed at the departure of SG-1 you should remember this SG-1 quote (and think of this page) -- "However, now there is hope where once there was none." (Thor - Small Victories). Keep a lookout in the news section for more information on Stargate SG-1, Stargate II, Stargate : Atlantis and Stargate : Infinity. |
