FAN FICTION THE BEACHNepthys Ahhh, the beach Warm sand under your feet. The sound of waves crashing and children laughing. The sun, warming you, giving you a good tan line. What a wonderful place to be...unless you're there with the rest of SG-1. Not that I dont like they guys, no, I trust them with my life, its just that, well. You know Jack. He could get in a fight with a minnow and lose. Daniel could find something to hurt himself on, even in a padded room (No pun intended). And Teal'c...well...he's a character. You have to explain something to him every five minutes, and he's not exactly a barrel of fun. Not to mention the 3 day ride to Florida from Colorado was HELL. The damn Humvee stalled four times. Daniel was carsick. At a rest station, Jack pissed off some guy from Kentucky. And The radio wasn't working so Jack decided we would sing classic car songs like 'Old MacDonald'. All this while Daniel tried to teach road-kill bingo to Teal'c. Need I say more. Some times I think I'm more of a mother than a Major. I'm telling you! I am never leaving the state with these three again...ever. But let me start at the beginning. General Hammonds Office. August 7 6:50 PM General Hammond stood up, stretching his muscles. What a debriefing. Well, you always can expect something interesting from SG-1. They were a very unique group. "Is that all, Sir?" Jack asked, standing up as well. "No, Colonel. Sit back down. I have one more matter to discuss with you before you leave." General Hammond opened his desk and pulled out a manilla envelope. "I was talking with Doctor Fraiser and we both agree that with the past two missions, and Colonel Mayborne hanging around that you all have been under quite a bit of stress lately." He paused and opened the folder. He laid the contents out on the table. "I went into your personal files and saw that between all of you, you had cumulated over 30 days in vacation time. I want you to take these hours and go before the year 2000, then they will be null and void." "But, Sir-" Jack started. General Hammond cut it off. "Don't make me make it an order. People under high stress are a risk to this project, and can become a weak link." "I have some much translating to do." Daniel mumbled. "Dont worry about that, Doctor Jackson. Doctor McCauslin will take over for you." Daniel nodded. "Do I have to make it an order?" General Hammond asked, looking at Jack. Jack looked up and smiled his 'I have an idea' smile which usually means trouble. He stood up and reached for the papers. "No, sir. Were gone." And with that, he dashed out of the room to make plans. He didn't even wait for General Hammonds 'Dismissed'. The next time we saw Jack was out in the parking lot. He had obviously been waiting. Thats when he dropped the bombshell. "Hey, guys. You know what I've been thinking? Florida. The sun. The people. The women in two pieces." I snorted with a smile. "Have fun." I said, continuing to walk from Jack. "I dont think that you quite understand. We can go as a team. Take out a military car and go together." "I don't think so, Jack. I was planning on catching up on some much needed sleep." Daniel said, looking at his CO. "GREAT! I pick you up at 6 tomorrow, be ready." And with that, Jack was gone in his Ford. Teal'c turned to me. "What is Florida?" He was at my apartment at 6 in the morning, wearing jeans and a black Tee shirt. Oddly enough, I was ready, dressed in Jeans an a tank top with three bags at my side and 50 dollars in my pocket. He helped me with my bags, and issued my the front seat. He really had this thing planned out to a T. "Snappy outfit!" He yelled as he gunned the engine and took off down the street. It was only 6:10 before we got to Daniel's apartment, and we both went up to the door and knocked. No one answered. Jack continued to knock for about three minutes until finally the door opened and revealed a very asleep Daniel, wearing nothing but a pair off PJ pants. This was the best part of the vacation. "What?" Daniel asked, smoothing his crumpled hair down. "Did you forget? Florida?" Jack asked, bouncing on the tips of his toes. Daniel stared at him blankly. "What time is it?" He asked, turning and walking back into his apartment. Jack and Sam followed. "About 6:15." Jack responded, poking his head into the kitchen. Daniel picked up his clock. "God damn alarm clock!" He grumbled, throwing it down on the floor. Jack smiled as he heard Daniel mumble and grumble. He opened Daniel's refrigerator and pulled out a coke. "Sam. You stay and help him get ready. I'll go pick up Teal'c. Be ready in ten minutes." Yes SIR! "Yes sir." While Daniel was in the shower, I went through his clothes and picked out what I thought would look best on him (Boxers of briefs? Boxers.).I packed his swimming trunks. I also packed his spare glasses and two first aid kits just in case. Finally he came out and he was wearing what he had been wearing yesterday. Camo pants and a black Tee shirt. I gave him a questioning look, and he just waved me off, walking into the kitchen mumbling something about coffee. Jack arrived about 15 minutes later, complaining about the traffic and how long it was going to take to get out of the state now. "Dammit, Daniel. Are you ready to go?" He asked impatiently. "Yup." He answered, rubbing his head. "Well, then. Lets go. Teal'c is in the car waiting." When I got into the car, the first thing I noticed about Teal'c was that he wasn't wearing his hat. I asked him: "Teal'c, what is someone sees you?" He gave me a look and finally said "I understand that people in Asia also have markings on their foreheads. That is my cover story. I come from another country." Well, that was new, and I had no doubt that Jack had influenced him into that cover story, but hey. What could I do? Anyhow, the first few hours were fine and went without a hitch. We were able to get out of the state within two hours, but ant the end of the third hour, Daniel began to look a little green around the gills. I knew what to do. -insert superman music here- I got into the first aid kit and pulled out a tiny box that had the words 'Dramamine' on it. I handed Daniel the pill and he downed it. He was asleep within minutes. It was all going good until we got to the next border. 2:23 PM The state policeman walked up to Jack and gave him a weary glance. "Do you have any other people in this car besides the four of you?" He asked, looking at one person to another. "I don't know, you might want to check my gas tank for tiny elves." Jack replied. The policeman ignored his comment and walked back to Teal'c. "What is that on your forehead?" He asked. "I am from another country." Teal'c stated. The officer stared at him for a moment, then walked over to Daniel. "You been drinking, Son?" He asked, looking at a very unconscious anthropologist. No answer. "Hey." The officer persisted. "Buddy." Jack called, waving the officer to the front of the truck again. "We are on a militant mission." He flashed his military ID and gave his best shit-eating grin. "And we need to really get to the base in Florida..." Jack looked around at all the members of the car. "So, if you dont mind." Jack revved the engine. "Yes I do mind. Give me the name and number of your "General"." Uh, oh. He used the quotation marks... Jack reluctantly gave out the information, knowing that General Hammond wouldn't be the least bit thrilled having a call about them within the first day of their vacation. Finally, we were given permission, and were able to pass the state border. Two days later, we arrived at Florida. We went to the Ramada Inn and walked up to the front desk. We asked about our rooms and soon found out that there was an error in the computer system, that had erased our reservations. They only had on room left. The executive suite. We ended up in that suite...all four of us. It was big, but with four people, one bed, and one bathroom, you would be an idiot not to expect trouble. Jack banged on the door again. "Daniel. Hurry up! You've been in there for five minutes!" He slowly walked away from the bathroom door and glanced at me. "I thought motion sickness meant that you got sick when you started moving, not stopping." He shrugged and made his way to the kitchenette. Teal'c was meditating on one of the chairs, and I was resting on the couch, reading the latest book. 'Insomnia' by Stephen King. Finally the bathroom door opened and Daniel walked out. He collapsed on the couch next to me. "How you feeling?" I asked, briefly looking up. He smiled sheepishly. "Better." He sighed closing his eyes. "Are you out yet?" Jack called from the kitchen. "Yeah." Jack dashed from the kitchen to the bathroom and slammed the door. After a few minutes, rustling noises came from behind the door. Then a loud shooshing noise. Then came a muffled "DAMN!" I got up and rushed to the door. "Sir, SIR? Are you okay?" I called, knocking on the door. Then came the loud thump. I tried to knob and found it unlocked, pushed the door open, and water pooled around my feet. "Sir?" Jack was laying on the floor in a pool of water that was spraying from the sink. He was obviously not conscious. "Daniel. Come help me." I called, trying to drag Jack from the bathroom. Daniel came rushing to her aide. "Good God." He mumbled as he made his way to the leak. He tested the pressure of the water and dashed off again. I finally succeeded in dragging Jack to the couch, and getting him on top of it, but by then, the water was beginning to make its way into the sitting room, which was where we were. "Daniel! Hurry!" I called, gently smacking Jacks cheeks. Looks like he hit his head when he slipped in the water. Daniel came flying out of the room with a wrench in hand, and slid into the bathroom. He too slipped but didn't hit his head. After another minute or two the water stopped and a very wet Daniel Jackson emerged from the bathroom. I looked at him and couldn't help but laugh despite Jack who was motionless. Then Jack wasn't so motionless. He began to groan, and his hand slid up to his head. "Sir, can you hear me?" I asked. "Yeah, yeah." "I think that you should have that bump looked at," I suggested as Jack sat up. "No, no. I'm fine. Never been better. Who saved my life?" He asked. Sam spoke up. "Well. I drug you out and Daniel shut off the water. Jack glared at them for a while, and then stood up. " I am going to change." Daniel whispered as he pulled off his doused black shirt. He took his bag and walked into the bedroom to change. I looked over at Teal'c and saw that he was able *somehow* to stay in Kel no reem during all that happened. Go figure, He's just that kind of guy. So, anyhow, Jack being the stubborn person he is, refused to go to the hospital to get his concussion checked, and instead decided that we should go for a team swim on the beach. It took nearly half an hour just to find a place to park, and another half an hour to find a place to set up and declare as ours. Finally we picked this nice place by the life guard post. Jack pulled off his shirt and Jeans to reveal tan swimming trunks, Teal'c took off his shirt, but stayed in his pants, and Daniel and I stayed dressed all together. We set up our towels and watched a volley ball game off to the left. "I used to play volley ball in high school." I said as I rubbed sun screen over my arms. "I was kinda good" "Sam, why dont you go play?" Daniel asked as he plopped down in one of those foldable chairs. "No." I laughed at the mere suggestion and shook my head. "Well, Jack and Teal'c are having fun, you might as well too." Daniel doesn't lie. Straight ahead, in the water, Jack was trying to teach Teal'c how to surf. Now, I never knew that Jack knew how to surf...but what-ever. It was kinda funny to see a big, serious Jaffa on a black surf board unable to keep his balance. SPLASH "Oh, looks like Teal'c wiped out once again." Daniel observed as he flipped on a pair of sun glasses. I allowed a little smile as I opened 'Insomnia' to where I had left off. I was about 3 pages further when I heard a soft snoring. I looked over and saw that Daniel was down and out for the count. Now, I thought that I might as well rest too. After all, it was a vacation. I closed my eyes and slowly slid off to la la land without a second thought. I was beginning to have a great dream. I mean great. I was married to Brad Pitt, and we this close ->||<- to kissing when... When I felt a tremendous chill and woke up gasping, mad as a hornet. An evil face smiled at me from above. Can you guess who it was? Yup. You got it. Jack. And he was holding a child's bucket in its hands. A wet child's bucket. For all of those people that are slow, he had flung a bucket of ice cold water on me. "Sorry there, Major. You looked far to peaceful. I thought you were dead." He smiled that evil smile again. "How long was I out?" I asked, taking a towel and wiping my face off. "`bout an hour and half. In that short amount of time, Teal'c mastered the surf board." Jack swung his arm in the direction of the ocean. My gaze followed. I was amazed. Teal'c was riding the waves like a pro. "Wow." Was all I could utter. Jack sneaked back to the ocean, refilled the bucket and trotted back to attack his next victim, Daniel. It was good for another hour or so, but then Jack decided we should all get in the water...Why does Jack get to make all the decisions anyhow? I am way more sensible than him. I should be making the decisions. So, back to the story. Teal'c wiped out and got a good lung-full of water. I scraped the bottom of my foot on a rock and ripped the skin. Daniel got stung by a jelly fish. And Jack got hit in the head by a flying frisbee. By the end of the day, we all ended up in the life guards makeshift ER. I swear that its easier to fight a barrage of serpent guards than go on a simple vacation now a days. When we got back to the hotel room, everyone was exhausted, and finally Jack brought up the inevitable question that was in everyone's mind. "So...who gets the bed?" He asked, sauntering through the front door. For some reason, everyone looked at me. "Hey, just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I need the bed. I can sleep on the floor too." I reminded them, waving my finger. Everyone continued to stare at me. "I dont know, Sam. I just wouldn't...feel right if I were to sleep on the bed, knowing you were sleeping on the floor. I suggest you sleep in the bed. Any objections?" Jack asked running a hand through his short graying hair. Teal'c and Daniel remained silent but I started to protest. "But-" I started. "Good I'm glad we got that decided." Jack smiled warmly. Before anyone had a chance to say anything after that, Daniel declared, "I get the sofa." Jack glared at him but said nothing. "well, Teal'c. Its you, me, and the arm chair. Wanna flip?" He asked, looking towards the Jaffa. Teal'c raised an eyebrow and stated. "I do not require a piece of furniture for Kel Nor reem. I will meditate on the floor." And with that, it was decided. Then we had to wait turns to take a shower. I won't go into the gory details but when your fourth in line, behind three men, and you finally get into the bathroom (Which happened to still be water logged) its not a pretty sight. Believe me. Really. No, really. Anywho, we were all in bed by about twelve o'clock. I believe that I was the last one to fall asleep because at about twelve thirty I heard Daniel explaining to Teal'c about 'bed-bugs' and then there was silence. Jack waved his hand in-front of my face furiously snapping his two fingers. My eyes blinked open with a start. There in-front of me was a terrifying figure. Jack wearing Bermuda shorts and wearing binoculars around his neck. "Holy hell!" I gasped, sitting upright. "Lets do some sight seeing...eh?" He asked putting his hands on his hips. I could feel the start of a really bad headache throbbing in the back of my skull. I rolled out of bed and made my way to the kitchenette. "Good morning." Daniel grumbled bent over the table. Teal'c was also bent over the table but he appeared to be sleeping peacefully. Who would have ever guessed that Teal'c wasn't a morning person...uh...Morning Jaffa. I shuffled over to the refrigerator and opened it. I pulled out a box of Duncan doughnuts. Ahhh. Creme filled. My favorite. "Come on. Hurry up. I wanna go and see the sights!" "They are not going anywhere. They will still be there in an hours time." Teal'c mumbled, surprising everyone. Jack groaned and walked into the living room. I sat down at the table between Teal'c and Daniel. They both looked utterly wasted. I plucked off a piece from the end of my pastry and was about to pop it in my mouth when a thought came to me. I aimed, pulled back, and let fly. Teal'c jumped up upon contact of my doughnut to his face. He stared at me with this look on his face that seemed to say 'Oh my god, she's gone crazy!' Daniel looked up and smiled. "Major Carter. I believe you just threw a piece of your breakfast at me." He stated, examining the piece of doughnut. I nodded. " I do not understand. Is it ritual to throw your food at someone else?" His brow furrowed as he stared at me. "Aww. Your no fun," I mumbled, trying to tear off another piece of the dough. "I better Daniel is more fun than you." And with that, I launched a chocolate glazed missile at the sleepy anthropologist. Daniel jumped as well at the contact and glared at me. I just smiled and continued eating my breakfast with an innocent look on my face. I looked down at the paper that was covering the table when a wet splat landed on my head. I looked up. Daniel was trying to keep a straight face as he looked at my hair. I reached up and brushed off whatever had crash landed. Yellow blobs fell before my eyes. Scrambled eggs. Figures. I Flung them back in Daniel's direction but he dodged out of the way just in time. I ran into the refrigerator and heaved the door open. I pulled out a half eaten Big Mac (Jack's) and looked up. Daniel was trying to get to the door, but I was quicker. I threw the Big Mac at him, but he ducked just in time. It instead made impact with Jack, who had come back in to see what the commotion was all about. Now that was a Kodak moment if I ever did see one. Anyhow, we went out and 'saw the sights', but we decided not to go to the beach for a while. We were eating lunch in the Hard Rock café when someone tapped jack on the shoulder. "Well, look who it is!" a burly man exclaimed. Uh oh. It was the guy from Kentucky. Remember? The guy at the rest stop that Jack pissed off. Yup. Thats him. I'll skip the gory details but we ended up getting thrown out of the restaurant with a warning never to come back. We thought that it ended there, but the guy from Kentucky somehow followed us to the car and caught up with Jack. Thank God some local by-stander called the police before it got physical. So anyhow we ended up here. The police station....Jail to be exact. We were charged with disturbance of the peace or something like that, and the guy from Kentucky is currently in the drunk tank. "We are so dead!" Daniel moaned for the 100th time. Jack gave him a glare that told him to shut up. Daniel caught the hint. I sighed and fell onto the squeaky bunk. We had been in this Hell hole for a little over three hours waiting for Hammond to make one of his famous get out of jail free calls. We knew that he wasn't out of the office like Hammonds secretary had told the warden and the warden told us. We knew that the good old General was trying to give us some time to think about what we did. Jack groaned and rattled the bars with his fists. I gave him a questioning look. "It was worth a try..." he said sheepishly. "Oh yeah. And what If one a slight chance the door was unlocked? You can't run from the police." I pointed out with a jabbing finger. " Yes I could. Did you see how fat the warden was? After a minute or so I think he would have a coronary or something." "Thats just wishful thinking." I sighed, folding my legs into Indian style. "Yeah, well, I seem to be the only one in here that actually is thinking." He shot in my general direction. Then Teal'c spoke for the first time since we had been thrown in here. "Silence!" He roared, rubbing his temples with his finger tips. "It is impossible to achieve Kel No Reem with all the noise." We were silenced. After about 5 minutes of uneasy looks and sighs, we heard the telephone ring in the wardens office. Jack stood up with a crack. The warden came booming down the hall way. He pulled out a little circle key chain and selected a key. "Good news. The General called. You made bail." He inserted the key into the slot and turned it. "Its about time!" Jack exclaimed. The warden looked at him and shook his head. "Not you...him." The warden corrected pointing to Teal'c. "The general said the He was the only one I was going to let out. As for you, The general says that a day or two behind bars with help you to remember to watch your temper." "What about us?" I asked, jumping up. "Daniel and me?" "You get to keep Mr. O'Neill company." The warden said cheerfully, ushering Teal'c out and slamming the door behind him. Daniel and I glared at Jack. We slowly moved in for the kill. *Insert JAWS music here* "Oh, for crying out loud!" Used with permission. Return to Fan Fiction? | Return to DHD home? |
